What will happen to the old swimming pool?

Updated: Dec 9, 2024

Annapurna came with an abandoned swimming pool that had not been used for who knows how many years.

Yet at one time it was the life of the summer swim parties! One of the residents was dutifully adding chlorine and maintaining the sand filter. It even had a natural gas connection, now disconnected.

Can we recreate this community nexus and avoid insurance recalcitrance?

It's an odd shape but would be contains approximate forty thousands of gallons!

Right now it is half full of rainwater, collected since we pumped out the overgrowth of thick algae last summer and then pressure washed the walls.

There are several proposals on the table.

Caleb wants to create a glass atrium surrounding the pool so it can be filled in and used as a gathering spot.

I'd like to direct our abundant rainwater to it.

Personally, I'd like to get it all going again, and add a bank of solar thermal collectors to heat the pool to a comfortable temperature for summer enjoyment.

That could be done with the usual chlorination or by installing constructed wetlands to filter debris and maintain ecological sanitation.

Looking forward to hearing other's opinions on the future.
